Project 1 • Creating space for entertaining amid an easy-care design
The owner, who lives in Portland’s Irvington neighborhood, wanted to simplify the maintenance in his back yard and make it more functional and useable. The old, uninspiring sidewalk and concrete patio were replaced with a new paver patio and walkwaks in a more dynamic diagonal layout. Raised planters were incorporated to show off the owner’s collection of noteworthy plants as well as for ease of maintenance. Neighbors’ homes were screened by two strategically-placed arbors. A storage shed by Patrick Blakeslee was custom-designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional. J.P.Stone Contractors carried out the installation.
